The goal of MICEI is to train ophthalmologists, ophthalmic maintenance technicians, ophthalmic nurses, refractors, opticians in Cameroon and sub-Saharan Africa to become the next generation of leaders in eye care.
Sub-Saharan Africa is home to 12% of the world’s population, 4.3 million people are blind and over 15 million are visually impaired. There are only 2.5 ophthalmologists per million population in sub-Saharan Africa. Training of ophthalmologists is essential.
